Eric Babcock

Model & Example for Life
Submitted on June 11th, 2004

My father, Jerry W. Babcock, is and always has been my model and example for life. I truly have had the exclusive honor and benefit of being his only son and I am a better man today because of it. To me, he epitomized what it means to be a man in today's world. I can look back on every stage of life and recall several occasions where he instilled those principles in me. He taught me...

Work hard & set my priorities appropriately. Accomplish the things that are necessary before recreation, but be sure to make time for rest & relaxation. Work ethic means that you leave nothing on the table, but rather give 100%. Be respectful to others. Use tact, discretion &
wisdom when choosing your words. If you have nothing good to say, say nothing. Establish a clear & realistic definition of value and what
is important in life & beyond. Do not be deceitful, but seek wisdom and truth. Have faith and come to know the Lord Jesus Christ in a very
personal way. Honor God, and he will honor you for a lifetime. Etc...

My Dad demonstrated an ideal hybrid of love & strength. There's a time to be strong, both mentally & physically and there is also a time for
sympathy and service to your fellow man. Jerry Babcock commanded my respect; not by force, but by consistent example. My father was, and because his impact was so significant, he will always be...

My teacher, motivator, supporter, adviser, comfort, strength, love, guide, example, reason, perseverance, hope and there isn't enough
web space on this server for everything...

I will post many stories about my Dad; this one is meant to display what I consider to be perfection in his role as my father. He wore the
appropriate "hat" in the appropriate situation. It's that attention to detail and situational balance that served me so well for the challenges
offered by the Marine Corps and life in general.

I miss my Dad and definitely feel "robbed" that I had to lose him so early. However, as a testament to who he was, I know that he gave
me more in almost thirty years than most men can give their sons in twice that amount of time.

Thanks Dad, thanks for every single thing you did for me. I am forever grateful.
